We were recently called into a home because a chimney had begun leaking so profusely that the subfloor under the fireplace and in the living area had started to mold. Working with a general contractor, we were able to replace the existing fireplace and flue system and install a stone hearth around the entire assembly.
We started by removing the granite surround and wooden mantel in order to remove the existing fireplace box and chimney flue pipe. We then had to repair the subfloor under the fireplace due to extensive water damage. After that, we installed the new fireplace and flue system. Then patched the wall with cement board. Hung the mantel shelf. Then lastly installed the stone hearth and surround on the wall. In total, the project took about four days to complete.
