It’s Spring Cleaning time! One chore that sometimes gets overlooked is cleaning out the dryer vent. It’s one of those out of sight, out of mind tasks that when neglected can have serious consequences.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, in 2010 there were 16,800 fires caused by clothes dryers, most of which were caused by “failure to clean.” Clogged dryer vents can cause fires and reduce the efficiency of the machine, which means increased operating costs in the form of gas or electricity.
One quick tip to ensure a better functioning dryer: Next time you remove your filter to clean off the lint accumulation, try holding it briefly under a running water faucet. If water doesn’t flow through it easily, there’s a buildup of dryer sheet residue that is impeding airflow! Scrub the filter gently with a toothbrush or vegetable brush to remove the residue and your dryer will be more efficient.
If your dryer is taking longer than a 50-minute cycle to dry a load of laundry, or if you notice that the laundry area is more humid than usual, there’s a good chance your dryer vent is clogged. If you don’t want (or aren’t able) to access your dryer vent for cleaning, call Black Goose! We’ll do the dirty work and you’ll have peace of mind!
